Solutions For Pain & Discomfort

Summer is finally here and the weather is beckoning us outside for physical activity. Maybe add some hours on the basketball court on the weekends, a few extra rounds on the golf course, or perhaps a summer softball league? Or, maybe you don’t have any extra time to workout so you’re trying something like short burst high-intensity exercise.

Well, it is good, if you take care of yourself while you’re at it. Medical reports show a 25-30% increase in trauma during the summer months. It’s not just the added weekend warrior sports activities either. There are plenty of physical injuries reported from household duties like back strain while gardening, landscaping, or even cleaning out the garage.

So, let’s say you’ve committed to increasing your activity level and all is well, until…
“Ouch!! That doesn’t feel right. Now what do I do?”

Acupuncture for Pain Relief

Recent studies have shown acupuncture to be more effective than usual care (painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants, physical therapy, etc.) for help relieving back pain in both short- and long-term cases. One study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed 60% of the acupuncture-treated patients, but just 39% of the usual-care group patients, had meaningful improvements in dysfunction…those in the acupuncture group being able to do more daily activities, such as going to social functions or performing household tasks. Furthermore, those patients in the acupuncture group were still showing improvement up to one year after treatment!

Acupuncture pain relief is not just limited to back pain however. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have both recognized the value of acupuncture in the treatment of pain for osteoarthritis, knee and shoulder pain, neck pain and headaches/migraines. These effects are enhanced with increased frequency of treatments. Evidence suggests that most pain-related conditions are resolved within 12-24 acupuncture sessions.

Introducing HCG for Chronic Pain Management

HCG has been used successfully in weight loss treatments, and has recently been shown to be a powerful adjunct to managing pain. It works by increasing the levels of HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin found in the body. HCG is a hormone that is released by pregnant women and is also produced in the pituitary of males and females of all ages. Chemically it is made up of two amino acid components, that when stimulated gives HCG multiple clinical uses.

In a study presented at the 2011 Academy of Pain Management, one of the top pain management physicians in the U.S. shared data that showed hCG was helpful in reducing pain as well as the need for medication by up to 50% in those with intractable pain from fibromyalgia, arthritis, spinal conditions, peripheral pain in arms, hands, legs and feet, and headaches.

At FreshSkin Medical Spa and Wellness Center, acupuncture is offered for any number of reasons, with pain, inflammation, and anxiety being the most often treated ailments. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes any and all modalities necessary to provide relief. For added relief of chronic pain, consider adding sublingual (under the tongue) HCG to your treatment regimen. Begin with a Wellness Consultation to determine which path is right for you.

Feel relief and enjoy the rest of summer. Call today to schedule your appointment.
