Belotero Balance is a hyaluronic acid filler that was released on the Market in 2011 after obtaining FDA approval. While it was approved “for injection into the mid-to-deep dermis to correct moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds”, it was the first product that was used as a “line filler”. Mostly used on thin skin areas such as under the eyes (tear troughs), and lines above the lip, Belotero is ideal for superficial fine lines. At FreshSkin, we also incorporate other fillers into treatments such as Juvéderm and Restylane to address other concerns which may require a different formulation of a hyaluronic acid filler to achieve volume and lift.
Belotero Technology
The technology used to develop Belotero is called “Monophasic double crosslinked HA gel based on Cohesive Polydensified Matrix (CPM) technology”, meaning there is variable cross-linking in the product, making it last a little longer than the original hyaluronic acid fillers.
Belotero includes lidocaine, a type of local anesthesia reducing the pain of the injection site. The particle size of the filler has very low viscosity [thickness] and this combined with the type of variable cross-linking makes it ideal for integrating nicely into the nooks and crannies in the dermis and subcutaneous layer.
Areas Treated with Belotero
- Nasolabial Folds
- Lines Around the Mouth
- Under the Eyes (Tear Troughs)
- Crow’s Feet
- Forehead Lines
- Smile Creases
- Neck Lines
How Long Will Belotero Last?
As a fine line filler, it lasts 3-6 months when used in the crows and vertical lip lines but placed in the tear troughs, it lasts about 12 months.
What Results Can I Expect After My Belotero Treatment?
After a Belotero treatment, fine lines and wrinkles will not be visible or their appearance will be drastically reduced. A patient’s skin will appear smoother and more youthful.
Belotero draws a lot of water, resulting in more swelling compared to other fillers. In most cases swelling will subside in 5-7 days depending on the individual. Other side effects such as bruising and itching may occur and will be discussed with you during the visit by the medical provider.
The future for Belotero Balance is bright, however, in that it too will become a name that is used for several different products. These products are being used and tested in Europe and Canada and are expected to hit the U.S. market once they gain FDA approval.
