Kybella
Kybella, the first FDA-approved medication that destroys fat under the chin!
- Non-surgical
- Safe and effective
- Permanent results
If you have a double chin and have been contemplating plastic surgery, come to FreshSkin/FreshEnergy for a minimally invasive solution yet permanent solution for the presence of fat under the chin. We are one of the first centers to be trained in the Chicagoland area and given Dr Tenore’s long history with other fat dissolving injections, you will be in good hands.
How does Kybella™ work?
The active ingredient in Kybella™ (deoxycholic acid) is exactly the same as that which is produced in the gall bladder. In the body, deoxycholic acid is a bile acid that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. This medication is carefully injected as multiple small injections directly into the fat under the chin. After injection, the fat cells are destroyed resulting in a local tissue response that then acts to remove the broken down cells over a period of 4-6 weeks. Once the cells are destroyed they are no longer able to absorb or store fat, resulting in a permanent result.
Am I a Candidate?
The best results are obtained in younger individuals with small fat pads, but improvements can be seen at any age and with any degree of severity.
What to Expect.
Our medical provider will carefully mark your jaw and neck and identify the fat pocket. They will then apply a temporary grid (much like a child’s temporary tattoo) to the area to insure that the treatment is precise. Using a hand-held cooling machine to ease in your comfort, they will then inject (up to 50 injections depending) directly under your chin and you will be given ice to cool the area. The main immediate reaction is a burning sensation that is soothed and often eliminated by the ice. Post injection the area will be swollen; so there may be a temporary worsening of appearance. In addition, the area may feel numb for weeks. Both are completely NORMAL and should not cause alarm. Bruising and redness may occur but are surprisingly less common.
We have found that the additional treatment are best performed every 6 weeks. Most patients require 2-4 sessions depending on the size of the area and the amount of fat. If the patient is overweight or obese, they may have very large fat areas . Although, they can be treated successfully, more sessions would be necessary, so we usually recommend a medically supervised weight loss program to optimize on your results.
Special note:
Patients who have prominent platysmal bands (they look like guitar strings under the neck) may not receive optimal results and may need BOTOX® Cosmetic and/or Radiofrequency treatments to treat skin laxity in the neck.
What are the risks and side effects?
Common side effects include bruising, induration, redness and numbness that can last for up to 4 weeks, and trouble swallowing. Although we take very special care in marking the area, some patients have unusual anatomy and temporary damage can occur to marginal mandibular nerve which would cause an asymmetric smile. This is very uncommon and usually resolves within days or weeks.
