Sculptra® Aesthetic is made from poly-L-lactic acid (a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material), which helps to replace lost collagen. Within 4 to 6 weeks, the poly-L-lactic acid is completely replaced by your own collagen.
Background
Sculptra®Aesthetic was the first product on the market that was FDA approved for a condition called Lipoatrophy whereby an individual loose’s collagen and fat from their skin and body prematurely and at a rapid rate. The FDA then cleared it to be used for cosmetic purposes. It is a the best treatment for anyone who wishes to have a very gradual return of youth and beauty to their faces, that works at the structural level of the skin, restoring lost volume.
What to Expect
Sculptra is delivered by injection into strategic areas in the skin by thin needles. After the injections are performed, you can expect mild swelling and redness at the treatment site. Occasionally, there may be mild bruising that can last from 3 to 7 days. Less common side effects include rash and itching that may last more than 48 hours. Other rare potential side effects may include lumps and granulomas, both of which can be treated. Depending on the severity of volume loss; multiple treatments may be required at 2-3 week intervals. After we have achieved the youthful look you desire, touch up treatments are performed every 8-12 months to keep up with the aging process.
Initially Sculptra® Aesthetic has been used for facial volume restoration, but is now used in other areas of the body to improve the quality and texture of the skin or to augment, lift and tighten as in a brazilian buttock lift.
