How It Works
Neuromodulators produce a temporary relaxation of muscle by preventing transmission of nerve impulses to muscle. Currently there are three forms available; onobotulinum toxin type A, (Botox®), incobotulinum toxin type A (Xeomin®), and abobotulinum toxin type A (Dysport®)
While they all act in the same way, there are subtle differences that can be taken advantage of clinically.
The full effect of the treatment may take up to two weeks to demonstrate itself and they work well at smoothing out dynamic wrinkles.
What to Expect
Neuromodulator treatments are administered using an insulin syringe and very small needle. In the future, we anticipate that it may be administered as a cream. A noticeable reduction in wrinkles typically begins to appear in two to five days, and the full effects are seen at two weeks. The results generally last from two-and-a-half to four-and-a-half months.
Conditions It Treats
Neuromodulators are very effective for the treatment of “dynamic wrinkles” around the eyes and on the forehead, caused by years of normal facial expressions. While only approved for specific areas by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), we have found this product is also very useful for wrinkle reduction and also for “face shaping”. By this, we mean elevating the position of the brow, leaving the eyes more youthful and open.
